There have been many changes at Riverview Baptist Church over the last year. There have been staff changes, schedule changes, room changes, program changes, and building changes. Most significantly, in January '09 we launched a 2nd service with a contemporary feel, and a 2nd Sunday School. That, my friend, is a lot to absorb! Change can be uncomfortable. It forces us out of our comfort zone, and into "uncharted waters". It also tests our faith.
Did you know change can often be a sign of God working in your life? God is working at Riverview. He is changing our church, and grooming us into the people He wants us to be. When things change in our lives, it's not always because what we were doing was wrong. Sometimes it is to simply make us more spiritually mature. The same is true with the changes in a church. As a church matures, and grows with it's community and culture, it doesn't always mean what the church was doing in the past was wrong. Sometimes it simply means that God needs to "tweak" things in the church so the church can serve him better. That is what is happening at Riverview right now. It's important to remember - Riverview Baptist Church is God's church! It is not our church. If God wants to make changes, it is His to change. It is our responsibility to serve Him in the manner he instructs.
Wouldn't it be nice though, if we could have some guidance as to our direction? Something that could reinforce in our minds that we are, in fact, on the path God set out for us? As it turns out, we have that guidance.
On August 31, 2008, Bro. Andy preached a sermon that outlined part of the future for Riverview Baptist Church. We heard this sermon months before any of these changes were planned or executed. Bro. Andy had no idea what God was planning for Riverview when these words were spoken. He simply spoke the words and the subject matter that God gave him during his private prayer time. How blessed we are for God to grant us the opportunity to hear proof that we are following his plan! He's not obligated to share anything with us. He does it because He loves us!
Everything that is going on at Riverview, good or bad, is not a surprise to God. He knows where we are, and where we're going. Listen for yourself and then thank God for His work at Riverview. The future is bright, and God has a plan for us!
